Book Review: Black Eyed Children and Strange Intruders by David Weatherly

David Weatherly is one of the biggest names in the paranormal field. He is especially known for his research into very mysterious and terrifying paranormal phenomena such as tulpas, skinwalkers, and the black eyed children.
I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Weatherly at the recent Dogman Symposium. He gave an excellent talk on skinwalker lore and encounters. While at the the symposium, I got to briefly chat with Mr. Weatherly and purchased two of his books; Black Eyed Children and Strange Intruders.

The Black Eyed Children book is an excellent examination of one of the most unusual and horrifying recent paranormal occurrences. You can read my brief explanation of the Black Eyed Children here.
Weatherly examines ever possible aspect of the children in the book. From djinn to fallen angels, teen pranksters to curses, demonic presences to the Evil Eye; he looks at it all.
Black Eyed Children is an excellent, groundbreaking book and should be on the shelf of anyone interested in the dark side of the paranormal.

Strange Intruders is a culmination of Weatherly's research on entities known as "Ultraterrestrials". The book examines shadow people, black eyed children, djinn, monkey-men, reptilians, and more. It is a perfect companion to his Black Eyed Children book and any of John Keel's work.

Shadow People

Worldwide people report seeing shadowy figures, witnesses say they have an evil presence and seem to want to harm them. These figures are known as shadow people and have recently been terrorizing thousands around the world. Witnesses say the entities appear as silhouettes with no facial features or any features at all but seem to appear as male. They are described as “blacker than black” by most who’ve had the misfortune to have an encounter. The shadow people have also been reported to be wearing hats and coats on occasion. Although they are shadowy in appearance they do not appear transparent in most sightings.
Almost every encounter with one of the shadow people is accompanied with paralyzing fear which is inflicted upon the witness. Many times this fear is long lasting and stays with the person days, even months, after the encounter. Witnesses have been known to develop a fear of darkness and nighttime as well.
Shadow people are commonly reported to be seen in the witness’ bedroom, the witness wakes up suddenly and sees a silhouette standing over their bed, watching them, then the thing seemingly melts into nothingness, leaving the witness alone, and horrified. Shadow people have been reported in almost any type of setting, from museums to zoos to random hallways and outdoor gatherings.
The shadow people phenomena is significant in two ways, it is one of the most widespread paranormal phenomena and it is also one of the most interconnected paranormal phenomena. It has been linked to extraterrestrials, djinn, black eyed children, Native American spirits, ghosts, demons, and even multidimensional beings.
The shadow people phenomena is among one of the most puzzling and mysterious paranormal happenings in the world.

Black Eyed Kids

People say they eye is the window to the soul, and that seems true, but since the 1990’s there have been reports of children whose eyes are pitch black, and they want to enter your home. Black eyed kids (BEKs) look like normal teenagers except for the startling fact that their eyes appear completely black. BEKs are commonly encountered in groups of two to five, rarely more or less. Witnesses report the kids look normal enough until they notice their eyes. As with many entities seeing a BEK is accompanied with an overwhelming feeling of terror that doesn’t seem explainable.
Most people encounter the children at night, normally outside the witness’ home or car, always asking permission to enter the house or car. Normally they ask some sort of question such as, “Can we come inside? We need to use your telephone,” or “Can you drive us home? We don’t live far,” The witness then notices their black eyes and refuses them access. When the kids are told no they begin to become violent, often screaming and pounding on the door, demanding to be let in.
Although the BEK phenomena is fairly recent, it has its roots in ancient occult ideas, namely the vampire. In ancient Europe, vampires were thought to be demons who possessed a corpse to use as a form of vehicle to do its evil deeds, there was only one problem, they needed to be given permission to enter one’s “domain”. Someone’s domain is any structure one feels safe in, such as a house or car. Even in the oldest lore domains are thought to be protected. Many researchers believe that BEKs could be a modernization to ancient vampire legends.
Nobody's really sure as to what happens if you allow the kids to enter because there has been no reports of it happening but Brad Steiger, a psychic phenomena expert, theorized that it could lead to poltergeist phenomena (unexplained movement of objects, unexplained sounds, smells, etc.) which then leads to the possession of the weakest in the house. Steiger based this on a similar report where a child had allowed an unseen entity access to his home.
No matter what the black eyed kids are, they’re here and are causing panic across the world.
